AUTO-TEMP 137ESDELECTRONIC TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SOLDERING STATION Sale Price: $115.00 |
Auto-temp 137ESD temperature controlled soldering station was developed to meet the present and future needs of the electronic production industry, service technician and the hobbyist. The detachable soldering iron is engineered with a highly insulated ceramic heating element, incorporating a state of the art P.T.C. sensor to insure accurate temperature
performance.
Auto-Temp 137ESD is constructed of high quality materials, workmanship and
incorporate the following features:
The Auto-Temp 137ESD provides an "Easy to Read" Digital temperature indicator,
a detachable 60W solder wand complete with tip, and a "Set and Forget"
temperature control that allows a precision accuracy "On Demand" heat setting
range of between 200 °C and 480 °C (392°F to 896°F).
137ESD exceeds all soldering equipment military specifications regarding
electro static sensitive devices for critical applications where unwanted
static discharges may damage components.
Precision "Tip Temperature" Accuracy is mastered to within ± 3°C(6°F) utilizing
state of the art circuit technology and a built in P.T.C. sensor, located at the
end of each ceramic heater shaft for accurate temperature control.
The power unit is isolated from the A.C. line by a high quality transformer and
only 24 Vac voltage is used to drive the heating element. The tough plastic PC
housing is stronger to better withstand high impact bumps and abrasions. All
materials meet UL standards.
Auto-Temp soldering stations are constructed with a lock-out feature to allow
supervisors the ability to set and lock the stations at a specific temperature.
This is accomplished with a special size allen head screw located on the front
of the panel.
Incorporates a long life Japanese made ceramic heating element with fast heat-up,
fast recovery and exacting temperature control with minimal overshoot. Heat-up
time to working temperature is attained in about 45 seconds.
"Zero Voltage" switching and fully grounded design meets military application
standards for protection of electro-sensitive devices against line transience
and voltage spikes. Tip leakage is less than 0.4 millivolts or 0.5 ohm resistance.

The Capacitor Wizard is an extremely FAST and RELIABLE device designed
to measure ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) on capacitors of 1uf and
larger "IN CIRCUIT" eliminating the need to remove the capacitor for
accurate tests. The Capacitor Wizard finds BAD caps IN CIRCUIT that
even VERY EXPENSIVE cap checkers MISS ENTIRELY, even out of the circuit!!
Why measure ESR? A capacitors physical construction dictates that most
capacitor failure modes will adversely affect a capacitors ESR. When a
capacitor fails ESR goes up to as high as infinity, depending upon the
particular failure mode. An open cap measures infinity. Slight dielectric
changes cause ESR to go up by several ohms. Standard capacitor meters cannot
detect any change in ESR therefore they miss bad capacitors leading to time
consuming "Tough Dog" repairs. A good percentage of your capacitor troubles
are caused by an increase in ESR! The Capacitor Wizard won't be fooled!!
The Capacitor Wizards method of measurement is based on sound BASIC ELECTRONICS.
It is an AC Ohm Meter with its Frequency, Waveform and Measurement Point
carefully chosen to maximize its ability to measure low values of ESR
(Equivalent Series Resistance) on capacitors of 1uf and up. If a capacitor
opens up the Capacitor Wizard measures infinity indicating a drastically
bad capacitor. If a capacitor changes value slightly the ESR goes up
indicating a bad capacitor. In switching and high current applications
(TV Horiz / Vert, Switching Power Supplies, Motor Start and Run Caps)
the difference between 0.2 ohms ESR and 2 ohms ESR is very significant!
Many occupations can benefit from using the Capacitor Wizard: TV Repair,
Printer Repair, Swiching Power Supply Repair, Computer Monitor Repair,
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Medical Electronics, Electric Motor
Repair to name a few.

Common Causes for Tip Failures
![]()
1. Tip temperatures higher that 410°C (770°F).
2. The tip working surfaces are not tinned while the iron idling.
3. Lack of flux in soldering, wicking, repair, and touch-up operations.
4. Wiping the rip on a high sulfur content, dirty or dry sponge.
5. Contact with organic substances such as plastic, resin, silicone, grease
and other chemicals.
6. Impurities in the solder and/or low tin content.
Care of Tips
Caution: The soldering, desoldering irons can reach very high temperatures.
Be sure to turn the unit off prior to carrying out any maintenance
or trouble shooting steps listed below!
Important: Remove the tip and clean after each moderate to heavy use or daily
for light usage. Remove any loose build up in the tip retaining assembly
to prevent tip freezing.
Both solder, desolder tips supplied are iron clad copper and if used properly should
maintain optimum life.
1. Always tin the tip before returning it to the holder, turning off the station,
or storing it for long periods of time. Wipe the tip on a wet sponge or out
tip cleaner 460 prior to use.
2. Keeping the iron set at high temperatures (more than 400°C or 750°F) will
shorten tip life.
3. Do not use excessive pressure on the tip or rub the joint with the tip while
soldering and/or desoldering, it does not improve the heat transfer and may
damage the tip.
4. Never clean the tip with a file or abrasive materials.
5. Do not use fluxes, which contain chloride or acid. Use only rosin or resin activated
fluxes.
6. If an oxide film forms, it can be removed by careful buffing with a 600-800 grit
emery cloth, isopropyl alcohol or equivalent and then wrapping rosin core solder
around the newly exposed surface. Coat the tinned areas with rosin-core solder after
the resin-core has melted.
New Tips
Applying the following steps give the tip optimum life.
1. Set both temperatures to min. Then turn the main power switch to the "ON" position.
2. Set soldering tip temperature to 250°C (500°F approx.) and desoldering tip
temperature to min. Coat the timed surfaces with rosin-core solder after reaching 250°C.
3. Set to the desired temperature about 3 minutes after being warmed that the station
will be ready for use once it reaches preset temperature.
Important: Remove and clean the tip daily. If a new tip is installed, remove any loose
build up in the tip and barrel assembly, otherwise the tip may fuse to the heating element
or retaining barrel.
