The difference between good techs and fools are the price of
their tools.
I
really do not mean to be calling anybody a fool, but you can be
fooled into believing you are a good tech until you ruin an
expensive board trying to change a part without the proper
tool. Most us have figured out how to change most parts in
the past, but the parts just keep getting smaller and
smaller. If you do not take a little of that cash and invest
it in some of the later model tools, you wont be working on
the new products very long. And if you do not work on the new
products, you will be destined to go the way of a lot of
other techs in this industry.
Talk about good
tools ... have I got something to show you:
I try
to make it my job to go to all of the main trade shows
around the country and look for good soldering and
desoldering tools for my customers. After all, we call
ourselves Your Desoldering Specialist? so I figured we had
better try to know what we are doing when we are asked. That
is why we have gone to a world trade show in Tokyo, Mexico,
and many places in the good old USA looking for quality
soldering and desoldering tools worth the money. In doing so
I have become acquainted with many people around the world
who are in the same business that I am in. Many have helped
me in my quest for the ultimate soldering and desoldering
tool.
Last
year my very good friend from Australia told me that I
should be marketing this particular line of tools. They had
a booth in the USA for the first time so we went there and
he showed me. I could not believe what I was seeing. I had
never seen soldering and desoldering tools like this before.
I had never seen this particular brand because it had never
been shown or sold in the USA before that day.
This
company is from Spain and has been manufacturing soldering
and desoldering tools for 73 years, but has never sold in
the USA. This looked like a very good opportunity for me to
pioneer a superior line of tools…a line of tools like I had
never seen before. They seemed to have everything in their
line that I was looking for, and innovations that I had
never seen before.
I knew
that this was a line of tools that I had to market, because
it was just what my customers would be looking for. This
line of tools had been designed for the manufacturing and
production line, but a top quality technician would be more
than proud to own one of these and it would also pay for
itself in a short period of time. They call it the advanced
series and it sure holds up to its name.
New Innovative Features:
I know,
you are wondering what features this line could have that
other tools do not have. I have to say they are numerous and
I am sure that you have not seen any tools like these
before. I will attempt to list some of the features. Some
you may believe and some you may not but I can assure you
they are all true.
1.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that will melt
solder in 2 seconds after turning it on from a completely
cold tip?
2.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that you can
change from one tip (cartridge) to another and be soldering
in less than 10 seconds, all without the danger of burning
anything, including yourself?
3.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that does not
require any calibration when switching from a small tip to a
large tip, or switching hand pieces?
4.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that has an
immediate sleep mode thereby preventing the oxidation of
tips when the iron is not being used?
5.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that
advertises that their tips will last 3 ?5 times longer than
the tips you are using in your present soldering station.
6.
Have you ever seen a soldering, desoldering or rework
station with a 4 year warranty on materials and workmanship.
7.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that will shut
off for lunch when you place the hand piece in the proper
place in the stand, and be ready in 2 seconds by lifting the
hand piece from the stand when you return from lunch. This
also applies if you are only using the solder station only
intermittently as a technician would.
8.
Have you ever seen a soldering station that will tell
you how many times the station went into the sleep mode, how
many times the hand piece was taken out of the stand, the
number of hours the station was used, how may times the
cartridges and/or soldering irons were exchanged.
9.
With the use of the AC2600 Console you can fix the
working temperature, adjust the sleep temperature and delay
of sleep temperature, set to read Celsius or Fahrenheit, set
adjustment of temperatures up to ?9ºF (50ºC), and set the
maximum working temperature. The beauty is that you do not
have to purchase the AC2600 --- we will make the settings
for you, free of charge.
Benefits for your
technician:
All of
this is possible in the Advanced Series line of JBC Tools.
The heater is built right into the tip and the complete unit
is called a cartridge. It simply plugs and unplugs from the
hand piece (soldering iron handle) making a switch of
cartridges possible and be soldering in less than 10
seconds, without any danger of burning anything, including
the operator.
The
unit does not ever require any calibration because it is
controlled by a microprocessor. It simply controls the
temperature according to your setting of the temperature
control. Or you as the supervisor can control the
temperature if you wish through the use of the AC2600
Console, available as an option, or free of charge setting
from us. You simply state your parameters and we will set
them for you, anytime.
The
reason the tips rarely oxidize is because the unit instantly
goes into the sleep mode when the hand piece is placed in
the holder. The temperature goes down below the point of
oxidation and remains there until you remove the hand piece
from the stand. Since it only takes 2 seconds from a cold
tip, you can see that it will be ready to solder almost
instantly upon removing it from the stand. Can you also see
that the recovery time will be minimal when soldering a
large ground plane area. I have tried this myself and it is
phenomenal, even with a small tip.
Also,
by having the heater in the tip, they were able to have the
shortest tip to handle distance in the industry. Can you
imagine having a completely cool handle with the tip just a
mere 2 inches away from where you are holding it. It also
makes for greater accuracy, which is particularly important
when working with fine pitch surface mount devices.
Also,
at least four cartridges are available specifically designed
to solder the IC’s back in once they have been removed from
the PC board. This becomes a very easy process due to the
very fast recovery time of the station.

I know
you can hardly wait to see this new soldering station. Well
wouldn't you know, it can be seen on our web site at
http://www.howardelectronics.com/jbc/ad2200.html.
So far,
I have only been talking about the AD2200 Advanced Series
Soldering Station. JBC also has a full line of
Soldering/Desoldering Stations, Micro Hot Tweezers, Regular
Hot Tweezers, Hot Air Rework Stations, and Complete Rework
Stations. They all utilize the Advanced Series Features and
have features of their own that would take another article
to talk about. They are all on the web site at
http://www.howardelectronics.com/jbc/jbctools.html.
You can
now see why the Advanced Series is a new, powerful and
revolutionary product range characterized by an
instantaneous thermal response. You just have to try it to
fully appreciate it.
