filtration only. Quatro and its engineers have been designing,
manufacturing, testing and servicing air purification systems for over 23
years. Our belief is that companies should be focused and do one thing but
one thing very well. With a deep and strong industrial filtration background
there are no projects too small or too large for our engineers to tackle.
Quatro has provided solutions to many industries with airflows ranging from
10 CFM to 230,000 CFM. Our systems typically incorporate particulate, HEPA
and gas phase medias in standard portable and/or custom packages " wherever
clean air is required ".Using our unique filtration expertise allows us to
provide proven industrial technologies to many other industries and
applications such as soldering fume extraction.
Many production facilities that perform rework, using hand soldering tools,
wave soldering equipment and soldering pots are exposing their workers to
serious health risks. When heated, typical rosin based flux generates a
multitude of hazardous gases and particulates that are referred to as
"colophony". Colophony is comprised of 95% particulate (smoke) ranging from
0.3 microns to 11 microns in size and 5% gas. Some of these gases and
particulates are known
carcinogens such as formaldehyde as well as aniline, arsenic, cadmium,
acetone, methyl alcohol, and hydrazine. Health concerns studied by NIOSH
concerning the inhalation of colophony include asthma, dizziness, headaches,
membrane irritation, memory loss, mood swings and in the most extreme case
lung problems.
These symptoms all contribute to reduced production, high absenteeism,
quality issues and high employee turnover.
To address all of the contaminants generated from soldering applications, a
combination of particulate and gas phase filters are required to purify and
re-circulate the air. Particulate filters can include both ASHRAE rated
filters for heavy soldering and light dust applications, as well as 99.97%
HEPA filters to remove fine particulate as small as 0.1 micron (diameter of
human hair is approx. 50 microns ). Due to the complex nature of the gas
contaminants present a combination of gas filters is typically required.
Carbon filters by themselves are not effective on carcinogenic contaminants
such as formaldehyde and therefore other filter mediums are required. With
over 45 years of collective gas phase purification experience and 26
different types of chemical mediums available, Quatro can provide much more
than just carbon to address all the requirements and ensure that the safety
of operators is addressed. If you are doing something a little out of the

suit most applications using portable, low pressure, medium pressure and tip
